Week 10

Fix the Playoffs:

As we pass the halfway mark of the season I look around at a couple of divisions and see that 8-8 or 9-7 teams are likely to win a division or two.  In the AFC West it might even be a below .500 team.  The sad thing and why the division format needs to be changed is a below .500 team could get a home game.  Look at the NFC East this year, there could be 4 teams that get to 10 wins in a monster division.  Imagine if one of those teams who fought through the gauntlet of that division then had to go on the road to face a team that was 8-8 and played in a terrible division.  I think the top two seeds should be guaranteed their bye and home playoff games.  But the last 2 division winners and the wild card teams should be seeded according to record.  It doesn’t make sense to punish a team that had a better record, but was in a better division.  Wins should determine your seeding, not whether you won a terrible to mediocre division.
Joey Porter speaks the truth:

Joey Porter came out this week and said what everybody has been wondering.  How in the hell is Matt Jones not suspended yet.  Jones was found in his car cutting up cocaine.  This didn’t just happen yesterday.  This happened weeks ago.  And yet the NFL has yet to suspend him.  He has been suspended for 3 games, but that is pending appeal.  Not a big fan of Adam “Pacman” Jones, but come on there was public outcry for him to be shot just days after his last incident.  I know Pacman has a history, but sometimes the crime should be greater than the history.  And to me getting caught in your car cutting up Cocaine is a pretty big crime.  It seems that commissioner Roger Godell has come down hard on people before.  I’m not saying this involves racism or anything like that.  But the NFL must understand how this double standard must look to minorities fans and players

Thursday Night Games:

Why the NFL keeps putting games on the NFL Network I’ll never know.  I would say more than half of my football friends didn’t even know there was a game on this past Thursday.  The couple that did only knew because they have fantasy players on one of the teams.  Otherwise most people didn’t even know there was a game.  And then those that found out there was a game couldn’t watch it because it was on the NFL Network.  If an NFL game is played and only 20% of the country has the station the game is on, does it make a sound.  I’m a football fan and will watch a NFL game between almost any 2 teams.  But on my DC cable I don’t have the NFL Network.  And I refuse to pay extra for a couple of Thursday night games a year.  And I think most fans feel that way.  Because if it is your team on Thursday night, someone will show the game locally if your local team is playing.  These games get lost on Thursday night and the thing that should really scare the NFL is that there isn’t much outrage by the fans.  I know that is what the NFL was hoping for, but the outrage isn’t there.
Picks:
Seattle at Miami:
Kali:  It is really sad what is happening in Seattle during Holmgren’s last year.  He has been one of the top coaches in the NFL the last 15 years and shouldn’t have to go out like this.  Pennington is playing way better than even Miami expected.  Do you think the Jets might be missing him just a little bit?
Pick:  Miami
New Orleans at Atlanta:
Antonio:  Off a bye and in a dome should benefit the Saints,
however, I’ve continued to be impressed by Matt Ryan and the Falcons.
Expect a slightly high scoring affair, with Michael Turner running wild.
Pick: Falcons
Tennessee at Chicago:
Antonio:
The Titans aren’t going undefeated, and I can’t
imagine anyone believes they will.  Chicago can be passed on, but as usual
running is a different story.  Even with Rex Grossman I’d like the Bears in
this one, especially since they are at home against a suspect offense.
Pick: Bears
Carolina at Oakland:
Antonio:
The Raiders were terrible last week, and Carolina was
on a bye.  No doubt they watched the game tape and laughed at the pathetic
Raiders.  This game will be close, but I can’t see the Raiders winning here.
Pick: Carolina
Kali:
The Raiders are an disgusting on and off the field.  I don’t know how the other minority owners of the Raiders allow Al Davis to do this to the organization.  It’s not even like they are rebuilding.  I know it’s early but JeMarcus Russell has shown me nothing so far.
Pick:  Carolina
Buffalo at New England:
Antonio:
The Patriots will continue their up and down play.  They’ll
manage to find a way to win this game.  Don’t let the game at Indy lull you
into thinking they are dead.  They will play as well as Cassell does.
Pick:  Patriots
Kali:
I was really shocked by Buffalo’s game against the Jets last week.  I don’t understand how Cassell isn’t forced to just throw at least 2 bombs a half to Moss.  Last week against the Colts they never, ever took a deep shot.  That is a weapon that has to be used.
Pick:  Patriots
Indy at Pittsburgh:
Antonio:
Pittsburgh was amazing Monday night, and the Colts still
don’t seem like the Colts.  I like the Steelers, and despite Big Ben being a
very good player, they looked better Monday with Leftwich.  I’m not sure
that will continue if Rothelisberger misses significant time, but I like
them here.
Pick: Steelers
Kali:
The Patriots lost that game last week more than the Colts won it.  The Colts didnt really show me they had that last effort in them.  And that game was at home.  Going into Pittsburgh and facing the most aggressive defense in the league isn’t going to help Indy solve their problems.
Pick:  Pittsburgh
Green Bay at Minnesota:
Kali:
Green Bay should’ve beaten the undefeated Titans at thier place last week.  I saw a lot from A. Rodgers last week against that tough defense.  He should be able to do enough against the Vikings defense to get this win and put them in position to make a run to take over the Bears
Pick:  Green Bay
NYG at Philadelphia:
Antonio:
I think the Giants are the best team in football.
Hands down, no questions.   I never thought for a second last year was a
fluke, it just took them time to mature together.  That being said, the gap
between teams in the NFL just isn’t that big.  The Eagles are a step below,
but I think they are hungry, healthy and at home.
Pick: Philly

Kali:

Because overall it was such a dominating game no one really noticed that Eli had a bad game against the Cowboys last week.  If that was against a quality team they probably should’ve and would’ve lost last week.  I just don’t see it happening 2 weeks in a row and he always seems to play well against the Eagles.

Pick:  Ny Giants
