The Emergence of Southern Forward Shawn Prudhomme

By Thomas Scott

Coach Roman Banks has his Southern Jaguars on a mission to do something rarely seen in the SWAC. The Jaguars are aiming to become back to back SWAC Tournament Champions. In the past 15 seasons only one SWAC team has earned consecutive trips to March Madness (Coach Mike Davis, Texas Southern). With the stellar play of forward Shawn Prudhomme the Jaguars are looking to rewrite history.

Leading into the 2016-2017 the Jaguars team had huge holes to fill. How were they going to replace 1st Team All-SWAC Forward Adrian Rogers? Who would step up offensively to help veteran scorer Tre’lun Banks?

Luckily for Coach Banks, Shawn Prudhomme has stepped up to plate. Last season, Prudhomme was a trusted reserve. He averaged a respectable 9.7 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. This season he has gotten better in EVERY statistical category. Take a look at his current stat line:

Impressively, his increased scoring output has not negatively impacted his efficiency. He is shooting 55% from the field and 38% from three point range.

Prudhomme has become a vital part of the Jaguars success. The Jaguars are 8-3 when Prudhomme makes at least six field goals.

It is still early, but the emergence of Shawn Prudhomme is a dangerous sign for the rest of the SWAC.

  1. Any place else Prudhomme at 6’4 215 would force him into backcourt duty as a shooting guard now unless he has the leaping ability of a small forward if he plays at the next level he will be a guard.
