“0 college visits and 13 NFL visits…man God is good.” – Chad Williams

Thank God things don’t always end as they begin. Despite initially being under recruited, Chad Williams has the opportunity to become the first Grambling player drafted since 2006.

This comes as no surprise to many Grambling and SWAC fans. Last season, Williams capped off his collegiate career with 90 catches, 11 touchdowns, and 1,337 receiving yards. His individual performances played a vital role in both Grambling’s SWAC Championship and Celebration Bowl wins.

Williams erased any doubt he could compete with top ranked talent last fall versus Arizona. A game Grambling should have won. Williams DESTROYED the Arizona secondary to record 13 catches for 152 yards. Highlights of that game can be seen below:

Later, Williams built upon his strong senior season with an impressive pro day. The 6’1 receiver showcased elite speed and strength running the 40 yard dash in 4.37 seconds and completing 21 bench press reps.

Initially on the NFL’s website expert Lance Zierlien projected Williams to be a fifth or sixth round pick. Zierlien cited his offseason legal incident and route running techinques as potential weaknesses. However, Zierlien has since changed his tune. He had this to say on twitter:

NFL Insiders went even further with their prediction.

Chad Williams is an elite prospect. Going from ZERO college visits to a potential third or fourth round pick would be a monumental feat. His development is a testament to Broderick Fobbs and the entire Grambling staff. BlackSports will be monitoring his draft status amd notify you when he is selected.
