According to WAPT news,  last week Jones signed an UDFA (Undrafted Free Agent) deal with the Arizona Cardinals and was preparing to attend rookie minicamp.
Despite this great news, Javancy Jones shocked the HBCU community when he announced his early retirement via social media.

For many this move comes as a total surprise.  Especially considering all the obstacles he overcame throughout his playing career. Prior to his Jackson State days, Jones was once a highly touted recruit. He received Division I scholarship offers from schools such as Duke and Vanderbilt. Unexpected tragedy would change his plans. Javancy’s mother was diagnosed with a rare disease. Honorably, Javancy chose to decline these offers stay closer to home at Jackson State.

On the field Javancy was an immediate impact. He won 2013 SWAC Freshman of the Year and eventually went on to win SWAC Defensive Player of the year. His complete career stats can be seen below:

Instead of questioning Javancy Jones decision, the HBCU community should embrace it. Javancy Jones is the quintessential example of a student athlete. He maximized his ability to fund a world class education. He know has an opportunity to to positevly effect the community. We wish Javancy the best and hope to see him back on a HBCU sideline soon.
