This week, don’t expect to hear a bunch of empty clichés. Both Alcorn State and Grambling State know exactly what is at stake in Saturday’s game. The last two SWAC Champions were represented by these two schools. Here is what to expect from both teams going into this pivotal game.
Alcorn State – Alcorn State is currently 5-2 overall with a 3-0 record in SWAC conference play. The talent level of this team was on full display last week during their homecoming game. The Braves found themselves down 14 early to Prairie View, but quickly erased that deficit by scoring 34 unanswered points. This season, the Alcorn State Braves rank:

The offense is led by quarterback, Lenorris Footman and running back, De’Lance Turner. Turner is averaging 112.57 rushing yards per game on a whopping 7.8 yards per carry. Footman is a true duel threat, and has already thrown for nine touchdowns and rushed for six.
Grambling State- Grambling managed to move up in the national FCS poll, despite coming off a bye week. The Tigers are currently ranked 17th and in complete control of their own destiny going forward. Grambling State has won five straight games after dropping their season opener to Tulane. In fact, the Tigers have won 20 straight SWAC games. Their last conference loss was November 29, 2014.
Grambling has the top ranked scoring and rushing defense in the SWAC. The defensive unit is led by safety, Derrick Dixon and linebacker D’Arius Christmas. Offensively the Tigers are led by quarterback, Devante Kincade who was named the 2016 SWAC Offensive Player of the Year. Thus far, Kincade has thrown eight touchdowns and only one interception. Grambling also relies heavily on Martez Carter, who has the ability to score anytime he touches the ball.
