Baton Rouge | Back in February, Davin Cotton shocked LSU Tiger fans by entering his name in the NCAA transfer portal. Initially, there was some speculation that Cotton would return to Baton Rouge after he removed his name the NCAA portal just two days after the news went public.

This fall Cotton will be returning to Baton Rouge… only this time he will be playing for the Southern University Jaguars. Cotton made the official announcement on his Twitter page earlier this week.

What Type of Player Should Southern Fans Expect?

Davin Cotton was highly recruited out of Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. The 6 ‘4, 279 redshirt freshman was the ranked the 21st best defensive tackle in the nation by ESPN. He also was ranked the ninth best prospect in the entire state of Louisiana according to 247Sports.

Under the NCAA’s modified redshirt rule, Cotton will be eligible to play at Southern immediately this fall. He also will have four full years of eligibility left if he classifies his lone season at LSU as a redshirt year.

Southern University staff and fans hope Cotton’s presence will provide an immediate impact for the Jaguar defense. Last season, the Jaguars were the fifth best defense in the SWAC and ranked sixth in the conference with 24 total sacks.
