Last year, Makur Maker and Josh Christopher made national headlines when they took an official visit to Howard University during the Bison’s Homecoming week.
Many critics dismissed the trip as a publicity stunt and gave Howard very little chance to sign these five-star talents. Their claims were boosted when Josh Christopher eventually signed with Arizona State and the NBA gave Makur permission to enter the 2020 draft.
Despite this, Maker included Howard when he announced his Final Four schools on Twitter last night.
Less than 24 hours later, Maker shocked the world and chose Howard over UCLA, Kentucky, and Memphis.
This importance of Makur’s commitment can not be overstated. Howard University is getting a once in a generation talent. He is 7’0 feet big man with a guard’s skill set and will have an immediate impact on the court. Aside from that, Makur’s decision could be the catalyst to get more top black recruits to consider playing at HBCUs.
