Morgan State Men’s Basketball Reloads with Talented Recruiting Class

Written by Thomas Scott

Howard University isn’t the only MEAC basketball program making waves this offseason. After a 15-16 record last season, Morgan State head coach Kevin Broadus has revamped his roster with three extremely talented recruits.

Meet the athletes the future Morgan State Bears that lead the team back to the top of the MEAC.

Sharone Wright Jr. | 6’5 Guard | Wake Forest

The former four star recruit initially signed to Wake Forest University out of high school. As a freshman, he made an immediate impact starting 21 games and averaging 7.1 points per game. For whatever reason, he seemed to fall out of Coach Danny Manning’s rotation last year Despite this, Morgan State coach Kevin Broadus still sees tons of potential in Wright.

“He’s a big-time two-way player,” said Broadus. ‘He can do it all. He’s very athletic.

Wright explained his decision to leave Wake Forest for Morgan in a viral tweet.

Naseem Khaalid | 6’2 Guard | Four-Star Recruit

Take one look at his highlight tapes and you can see why there was fierce competition to sign Naseem Khaalid. The 6’2 guard committed to Florida State during his sophomore year in high school, but ultimately de-committed in 2019. In addition to Florida State, Khaalid received offers from Georgetown, Rutgers, North Florida, Stetson, and UNLV.

Khaalid’s combination of size, handles, and vision should allow him to compete against the top MEAC upperclassmen point guards night in and night out.

Will Thomas | 6’5 Guard | Three-Star Recruit

A sign of any good program is the ability to keep local talent at home. Coach Broadus was able to do exactly that, by signing Baltimore prep star Will Thomas.

Thomas is no stranger to adversity. The 6’5 guard was able to bounce back from a broken foot and fire at his family home to lead his high school team. He has a smooth game and is able to score in a variety of ways. He also has shown the ability to get others involved and has the potential to become a force on defense.
